Homeowners Spring/Summer Checklist

Get your home ready for summer so you can sit back and enjoy the season. Here’s a list of things to do annually to ensure that your home and property are properly maintained and your summer is chore-free!

Inside and Outside

  1. Check & repair windows & doorsHomeowner Checklist
  2. Remove storm windows & install screens
  3. Wash windows
  4. Test air-conditioning
  5. Clean or replace air-conditioning filter
  6. Check furnace for leaks, cracks & dirt
  7. Drain & lubricate hot water heater
  8. Caulk or fill any areas where insects may enter the house
  9. Wash siding
  10. Clean gutters & downspouts, check for leaks & cracks
  11. Check house for peeling paint, cracks in brick/ masonry
  12. Inspect roof surface flashing, eaves & soffits
  13. Check decks, patios, porches, stairs & railings for loose fittings & deterioration
  14. Test outdoor lights & replace bulbs as needed

Yard & Garden

  1. Trim bushes & trees away from house
  2. Rake, de-thatch & aerate lawn
  3. Check sprinklers
  4. Fertilize/ weed, feed lawn, & apply insect control
  5. Check trees & other landscaping for winter damage, prune as needed
  6. Check drainage ditches & drain tiles for large obstructions
  7. Clean & check lawn furniture
  8. Check yard for large depressions or heaving that may indicate drainage problems
  9. Check fencing for problems & repair
  10. Check for & repair any driveway cracks
  11. Reseal asphalt driveways
  12. Prepare soil for planting & add compost if needed
  13. Plant cold-crop vegetables
  14. Dig new gardens before soil becomes too dry & compacted

Swimming Pool

  1. Remove debris from cover
  2. Check pump & drain covers
  3. Check exposed plumbing for cracks & holes from freezing
  4. Replace sand in filter if needed or applicable
  5. Check pump motor & oil if access for oil is provided
  6. Check exposed seals & gaskets, replace if necessary
